River Kings eke out 5-4 tennis win

CLINTON — The Clinton River Kings maintained their perfect record with a 5-4 win over Muscatine in Mississippi Athletic Conference tennis action.

Josh Lawrence, Elliott Deering and Colin Sullivan took singles wins over the Muskies.

In doubles play Lawrence and Stephen McEleney and Deering and Drew Lakin took wins to secure the win for the River Kings.

The win improves Clinton’s record to 4-0, while Muscatine falls to 0-2.

The River Kings will be back in action on Tuesday when they will host Pleasant Valley.

Singles—Josh Lawrence (C) def. Allgood 6-0, 6-3; Elliott Deering (C) def. Johnson 6-0, 6-0; Wright (M) def. Drew Lakin 6-4, 6-4; Fillmore (M) def. Stephen McEleney 2-6, 7-6 (10-8); Colin Sullivan (C) def. Berkholdt 6-2, 6-2; Chrisman (M) def. Nolan Rolston 6-2, 6-2.

Doubles—Lawrence-McEleney (C) def. Allgood-Wright 6-0, 6-4; Deering-Lakin (C) Johnson-Fillmore 6-0, 6-0; Chrisman-David (M) def. Sullivan-Rolston 6-2, 6-2.

Records—Muscatine 0-2, Clinton 4-0.

Next—Pleasant Valley at Clinton, Tuesday.

Junior Varsity—Muscatine def. Clinton 10-0.
