Santana leads L-Kings to road victory

DAYTON, Ohio — Cristian Santana homered and drove in three runs and the Clinton LumberKings overcame an early 2-0 deficit in a 7-2 win over the Dayton Dragons Friday night.

In the opener of a three-game series Dayton struck first, scoring both of its runs in the first inning off Clinton starting pitcher Derek Holland who settled in and shut the Dragons down in the sixth inning.

Holland (1-0) got his first decision, earning the win. He allowed two runs on three hits, walked four and struck out six.

The L-Kings scored once in the second inning before going ahead 4-2 with a three-run fourth highlighted by Santana’s two-run homer.

Clinton made it 6-2 with two more runs in the fifth and finished the scoring with another tally in the sixth.

The L-Kings out-hit Dayton 12-4.

Clinton relievers Daniel Sattler and Adalberto Flores combined for 3 1/3 innings for one-hit ball. They did issue a walk and totaled six strikeouts. Sattler worked 2 1/3 frames and Flores came on for the ninth.

Jose Felix, Jonathan Greene and Tim Smith also drove in runs for the L-Kings. Felix, Santana, Ian Gac and Mitchell Moreland had two hits apiece for Clinton.

The teams meet in Game 2 of their series tonight at 6 p.m. local time. They close out the series with a 2 p.m. tilt Sunday.

The L-Kings then head to Fort Wayne for a three-game set, beginning Monday evening.
