DUBUQUE — The Clinton River Queens scored 104 points on their way to a third place finish in the 34th Annual Mustang Relays in Dubuque.

The River Queens’ night was highlighted by a one-two finish in the long jump by Cortni Kooi and Sarah Wenzel. Kooi took gold with a leap of 17-7, while Wenzel earned silver with a jump of 17-1.
Clinton’s Whitney Miller was first in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:08.42. The River Queens senior was also part of the shuttle hurdle relay team that took second with a time of 1:08.85. Larissa Wilden, Kiki Williams and Missy Kremer completed the team.
Clinton claimed firsts in the 4x100 Throwers Relay and the 4x100. The Throwers team of Kelsey Rursch, Ashley Loerzel, Taylor Rippon and Ashley Engleking won in a time of 1:00.65, while the 4x100 team of Wenzel, Williams, Kooi and Wilden took gold in 51.29.
Wilden scored quality points for the River Queens with runner-up finishes in the high jump (5-2) and the 200-meter dash (27.10).
Loerzel continued throwing well with a third place finish in the shot put on a toss of 34-5 1/2.
Clinton head coach June Wilden was pleased with the River Queens’ performance after struggling on Monday at the Pam Duncan Relays in DeWitt.
“We performed really well,” Wilden said. “It was a big improvement over Monday. The biggest highlight was probably Kiki Williams. She’s really coming on strong.”
“Cortni Kooi had a great night,” Wilden added. “Sarah Wenzel was second in long jump. We needed those points. It was a very fun meet and every kid got a medal.”
