River King tennis team cruises

CLINTON — The Clinton River Kings cruised to an 8-1 win over Davenport North in Mississippi Athletic Conference tennis action on Wednesday.

The River Kings swept singles play as the lineup of Josh Lawrence, Jan Wecher, Elliott Deering, Drew Lakin, Stephen McEleney and Colin Sullivan all collected wins.

The closest matches in singles came in the first two positions as Lawrence and Wecher recorded 6-1, 6-2 wins over their Wildcat counterparts.

Deering, Lakin and Sullivan all took 6-0, 6-0 wins, while McEleney defeated Zachary Ford 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles action Lawrence and Deering won handily by a 6-0, 6-0 score over Earl Twist and Mikey McCartney.

In the No. 2 doubles slot, Lakin and McEleney defeated Matt Burmeister and Ford 6-0, 6-1 to give the Kings an 8-0 advantage heading into the final doubles match.

The North duo of Josh Johnson and Kyle Barton won the No. 3 doubles match by default to avoid the shutout.

The River Kings remained perfect on the season as they ran their record to 6-0.

Clinton will host Bettendorf tonight at Max Lynn Courts. The match is slated to begin at 4 p.m.

Record—Clinton 6-0.
