River Kings win three events on the way to third-place finish

MUSCATINE — Clinton’s Ethan Holmes earned another win and the River Kings won the 4x400 and 1,600 sprint medley relays on the way to a third-place team finish at the eight-team Dave Matthews Relays Tuesday.

Holmes won the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 14.83. Chris Teney was part of both Clinton relay wins. Teney teamed with Scott DeAngelis, Kaleb Frazier and David Johnson to win the 4x400 in a time of 3:27.52.

Teney combined with Tyler Redman, James Smith and Shawn Winoski to win the 1,600 sprint medley relay in a time of 3:45.24.

Clinton’s Everett Williams took second in the 100 (11.51), Johnson tied for second in the high jump (5-10) and the River Kings’ 4x800 unit of Frazier, Smith, Teney and Sean Schoephorster took second with a time of 8:22.05.

The Kings scored 86 points to edge Burlington by three points for third place. Bettendorf won the team title with 110 points. Cedar Rapids Kennedy was second with 102 points.

“It was nice to finish third,” Clinton coach Tony Smith said. “We didn’t load it up. We’re getting ready for the conference meet on Friday.”

The River Kings will host the Mississippi Athletic Conference Meet.
