River Queen tennis team gets shutout win

DAVENPORT — The Clinton River Queens scored a 9-0 win over Davenport Central in Mississippi Athletic Conference tennis play on Tuesday.

The River Queens did not lose a set on the evening, winning each match in two sets. Clinton, as a team, only lost six games on the evening, while never losing more than two games in a set.

The entire River Queen varsity roster tallied a singles win and a doubles win in shutting out the Blue Devils.

Ellen Russell (No. 1 singles, No. 1 doubles), Claire Cornilsen (No. 2 singles, No. 1 doubles), Katie Crites (No. 3 singles, No. 2 doubles), Alyson Goetzl (No. 4 singles, No. 2 doubles), Megan Determan (No. 5 singles, No. 3 doubles) and Sarah Massey (No. 6 singles, No. 3 doubles) all collected two wins for Clinton.

Doubles—Russell-Cornilsen (C) def. Trey-Rink 6-1, 6-0; Crites-Goetzl (C) def. Dvorak-Bettini 6-0, 6-0; Determan-Massey (C) def. Doebel-Davis 6-1; 6-0.

Junior Varsity—Clinton def. Davenport Central 7-3.
