Smith, Buikema lead Clinton

— DUBUQUE — The Clinton River Kings ran to a seventh place finish at The Eastern Iowa Classic Cross Country meet at the Dubuque Soccer Complex recently.
James Smith led the way for the River Kings finishing ninth with a time of 17:19.0.
Ethan Holmes and Devan Sattler finished 35th and 36th respectively with times of 18:19.0 and 18:21.0.
Sean Determan (52) and Trent Weaver (58) rounded out the Clinton scoring.
In the girls race, Hattie Buikema finished ninth with a time of 16:08.0, while Grace Shemwell was 23rd in a clocking of 16:31.0.
Mareike Kirchemberger was 56th with a time of 18:19.0.
Clinton head coach Wes Golden was happy with his team’s performance at the large meet.
“The ladies ran well and were led by senior Hattie who smashed her personal best time,” Golden said. “The River Kings were led by James Smith. Freshmen Jarod Cannon, Andrew Holmes, Jon Lueders, Blake Tinderholt and senior Ethan Holmes all raced to personal best times.”
