Camanche players head All-Big East volleyball team
Herald Staff Report
BELLEVUE — Camanche rolled through the Big East Conference without dropping a game in volleyball this season. The Indians’ domination was reflected when the all-conference team was announced Monday.
Camanche put four players on the 10-player first team, had another on the second unit and also had an honorable mention pick after going 8-0 (24-0 in games) during the conference season and then rolling through the conference tournament without losing a game. In addition, Camanche’s Mark Cremer was voted Coach of the Year.
Senior Ashtyn Dixon of Camanche was named the Most Valuable Player and was joined on the first team by senior teammate Chelsea Moore and juniors Tiana Bark and Ashley Gonzalez.
Dixon averaged 2.5 kills, 3.5 digs and 1 ace a game for the Indians, who take a No. 5 state ranking into their first-round Class 2A Region 6 match tonight against Bellevue. Moore averaged 3.5 kills and compiled a .511 hitting efficiency rating. She also averaged 1.8 digs and had 31 aces in 24 games.
Bark, who teamed with Dixon to win the Class 1A state tennis doubles title last spring, moved to setter this fall and averaged 8.1 assists a game, along with 1.3 kills. Gonzalez led Camanche with .6 blocks a game and 2.7 kills and 0.9 aces. She finished with a .461 hitting percentage.
Conference runner-up Northeast was represented on the first team by senior Shawna Spain, who averaged 1.7 kills, 1.8 assists and 2.3 digs. Preston, which finished third, had a pair of first-team picks: juniors Kelcie Bormann (4.6 assists, 2.9 digs a game) and Emily Henningsen (1.9 kills, 2.7 digs). Bormann was a repeat first-team selection, while Henningsen moved up from the second team a year ago.
