Volleyball roundup: Rebels fall in 2A regional

GOOSE LAKE — Northeast’s stellar season on the volleyball court came to an abrupt halt Tuesday night when Cascade beat the 14th-ranked Rebels 23-25, 25-11, 25-18, 25-23 in a Class 2A first-round regional match.
“Tonight just wasn’t our night, but we had good things happen tonight that the girls should be proud of,” Northeast coach Sara Deters said after Northeast bowed out with a 25-8 record. “Overall, the girls had a great season. I’m proud of the girls for what they accomplished this season.”
Danika Loots paced the Rebels with nine kills and 17 digs, while Roberta Swanton had 14 assists and four aces.
“Our passing game was better, and our serves put us within sight of Cascade,” Deters said, “only missing four all night long.”
Cascade improved to 23-14.

Camanche advances
CAMANCHE — Tiana Bark broke the single-season record for assists Tuesday as she helped Camanche advance in the Class 2A Region 6 tournament with a 25-13, 25-8, 25-9 win against Bellevue in a first-round match.
The Indians will play Cascade, which upended Northeast on Tuesday, in a regional quarterfinal at 7 p.m. next Tuesday in Camanche.
Bark, who moved to the setter spot this season, had 27 assists to run her season total to 706. That broke the school record of 697, set by Krista Determan in 1996.
Ashtyn Dixon led the Indians (38-3) with 10 kills.

Steamers stop Storm
FULTON, Ill. — Fulton showed its balance again Tuesday in a 25-22, 25-15 victory against Bureau Valley in Three Rivers Conference volleyball. Unfortunately for the Steamers, Riverdale beat Erie to wrap up the conference title.
No one dominated the statistics for the Steamers (21-8, 11-2 conference), which has been typical for them this year with the numbers getting well-distributed. Amber Grant had a team-high six kills and three blocks, Lydia Schaver had 10 assists and Kim Rogis had nine digs to lead the way.
Fulton wraps up the home season Thursday with a match against Morrison.

Fillies earn conference win
MORRISON, Ill. — Morrison picked up its third victory in Three Rivers Conference play Tuesday with a 25-17, 25-12 win against visiting Prophetstown.
Keisha Hodge served 10 points, including one ace; Chelsea King had six kills and a block; Ashlyn Wieneke delivered five ace serves; and Shelby McBride had nine assists and one block to lead the Fillies (3-10 Three Rivers).

SAVANNA, Ill. — Eastland earned a Northwest Upstate Illini Conference sweep against West Carroll, winning 25-17, 25-21 on Tuesday.
Becca Fritz led the Thunder with six kills.
