AREA FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Bellevue headed to playoffs

ALBURNETT — Bellevue earned a trip to the postseason, beating Alburnett 43-6 on Friday to close the regular season in Class 1A District 4.
The Comets (6-3, 4-3 district) entered the night tied with North Linn for the final postseason spot in the district but had the head-to-head tiebreaker edge. Alburnett finished the season winless at 0-9, 0-7.
With the 152 yards of rushing, senior running back Chase Junk was able to produce a 1,000-yard season. Junk needed 146 yards to hit the mark and ended up with 1,006 rushing yards for the regular season.

Sabers miss postseason
VINTON — Central DeWitted missed a chance to return to the postseason with a 30-8 loss on Friday to Vinton-Shellsburg, which claimed the final playoff spot from Class 3A District 4.
Maquoketa forced to the road
LA PORTE CITY — Union High School forced Maquoketa to hit the road for the substate round of postseason with a 40-0 victory over the Cardinals on Friday in Iowa Class 3A District 4.
Maquoketa entered the game with a one-game lead over Union, but the win allowed the Knights to earn a second-place tie with Maquoketa and claim the No. 2 seed in the district via the head-to-head tiebreaker. Both teams finished the regular season 7-2, 5-2 in the district.
Rebels gain momentum
GOOSE LAKE — Northeast beat Maquoketa Valley 25-6 on Friday in a tuneup for the postseason. The Rebels had already locked up second place in Class 1A District 4 and a home substate game.
“We played well and we ran the ball extremely well,” Northeast coach Jeremy Mosier said.
Running back Tanner Loots ran for 189 yards and a touchdown for Northeast, which finished the regular season 7-2. Maquoketa Valley finished 2-7.

Thunder fall to top-ranked Dakota
SAVANNA, Ill. — West Carroll lost to Illinois Class 1A No. 1-ranked Dakota 20-12 on Friday night.
The Indians led 12-6 at halftime and 20-6 with eight minutes left in the game. West Carroll scored to make it a one-score game with 3:51 remaining on a pass from Ethan Baisden to Jorden Speer. But the Thunder couldn’t complete the comeback.

PROPHETSTOWN, Ill. — Sterling Newman guaranteed itself a berth in the Illinois playoffs with a 48-0 win against Erie/Prophetstown on Friday in the Big Rivers Conference.
The Comets improved to 6-3 overall and in the conference, while the Panthers fell to 3-6.
