Fulton takes 8th in volleyball tournament

STILLMAN VALLEY, Ill. — The Fulton volleyball team went 1-4 to finish eighth at last weekend's Stillman Valley Invitational.
The Steamers (23-12) beat Freeport Aquin 25-14, 25-12 and lost to Winnebago 12-25, 25-22, 11-15 for second place in their pool and the championship bracket's No. 8 seed.
But Fulton lost to defending Illinois Class 1A champ Lanark Eastland, Lena-Winslow and Stillman Valley to finish eighth out of 15 teams.
Allison DeWeerdt had 39 assists, 22 digs, 15 kills, five service aces and two blocks for Fulton. Lindsey Renkes had team highs with 24 kills and four blocks, Lydia Schaver totaled 42 assists, Kari Kuehl had eight aces and 23 digs, while Kim Rogis recorded 43 digs and seven aces.
West Carroll also participated in the tournament. The Thunder reached the consolation bracket final, but they fell to Oregon in two games.
