Cardinals' Kloft captures title

MANCHESTER — Jacob Kloft won the title at 152 and was one of three Maquoketa wrestlers to advance Saturday at the Iowa Class 2A West Delaware Sectional wrestling tournament.

Kloft, a sophomore with a 20-11 record, pinned Max Ridenour of West Delaware in 2 minutes, 32 seconds in the championship match.

The Cardinals’ Lucas Davison (106 pounds) and Dallas Durkop (126) each placed second.

All three Cardinals will compete this Saturday at the Central DeWitt District tournament, and the top two placewinners at each weight there will advance to the state tournament.

Comets’ Beckley moves on

DELHI – Aaron Beckley advanced to the district meet Saturday with a second-place finish, and his Bellevue team placed sixth Saturday at the Iowa Class 1A Maquoketa Valley Sectional wrestling tournament.

Alburnett won the team title with 278.5 points, 44.5 more than runner-up Maquoketa Valley.

Beckley (7-19), a junior, beat Garrett Matthess of North Linn in the semifinals, then lost to Conner Shulista of Alburnett by a fall in 55 seconds in the final at 138 pounds.

Collin Stillmunkes came within one win of advancing at 220 pounds. He was pinned by Robbie Carrothers of Alburnett in 52 seconds in the match for true second-place match.

Mason Lyons took fourth for Bellevue at 170, Jace Michels was fifth at 160 and Kole Wagner (132), Codey Olson (152) and Ty Oster (182) each placed sixth.
