Alburnett outscores Prince of Peace boys

ALBURNETT — Prince of Peace started strong in each half, but Alburnett outscored the Irish 18-6 in the fourth quarter to pull out a 63-56 Tri-Rivers Conference boys basketball victory Saturday.

Alec Philipp scored seven of his game-high 26 points in the final period for Alburnett (15-3), while Kolton Rose added six of his 10.

The Irish led 22-14 after one quarter, but that was trimmed to 32-31 by halftime. They started strong in the third quarter, too, building a 50-45 lead.

The difference for Alburnett came in fouls and at the free-throw line. Alburnett was whistled for eight fouls, 10 fewer than Prince of Peace, and it made 18 of 24 attempts from the line, compared with a 5-for-5 night for the Irish.

Nic Roth led Prince of Peace (8-10) with 20 points. Lucas Laufenberg scored 14 and Seth Moeller added 10.

Sabers beat Rebels

DEWITT — Kyle Bauer poured in 18 points to lead Central DeWitt past Northeast 57-40 on Saturday in a non-conference boys basketball game.

The Sabers led 12-11 after one quarter, then outscored the Rebels 23-10 in the second quarter and 13-8 in the third.

Nick Wall scored 13 points to lead Northeast.

River Hawks roll

MILES -- Chase Zaruba and Logan Wilhelm scored 26 points apiece, and Craiton Andresen added 18 in Easton Valley’s 96-59 shellacking of Midland on Saturday in Tri-Rivers play.

Zaruba scored 16 in the first half and Wilhelm added 13 as the River Hawks built a 55-33 lead.
