Saints advance to tourney final

CHICAGO — The Ashford University men’s basketball team hit the road and opened a four-game road trip by beating Presentation (S.D.) 74-57 on Friday at the Moody Bible Institute Tournament.

Thanks to a career-high 30 points from junior Anthony Woods and another 17 points from senior Thaddeus Perry, the Saints extended their winning streak to five games.

After taking a 34-30 lead into the break, the Saints turned up the pressure on the defensive end in the second half, holding the opponent to 27 second-half points to improve to 6-1 on the year.

Ashford knocked down 48.1 percent (26 for 54) of its shots, including a 10-for-19 effort from Woods, while holding Presentation to 37.7 percent (20-for-53). It marks the fifth consecutive game where the Saints held their opponent under 40 percent shooting.

AU held a 34-29 advantage on the glass, with Woods grabbing a game-high seven boards for Ashford.

The Saints will wrap up the tournament this afternoon in the 2 p.m. championship game.
