Senior rallies to beat River Kings

DUBUQUE — Evan Straw drove in three runs and David Janes had two RBIs, and each hit a pair of doubles, to lead Dubuque Senior to a 7-4 come-from-behind victory against Clinton on Friday in high school baseball.

The River Kings (1-2) led early, scoring twice in each of the first two innings. But, the Rams (3-1) came back to go ahead for good with a four-run second to take a 5-4 lead. They added two insurance runs in the sixth.

Justin Hendricks was the winning pitcher, blanking Clinton on just two hits over 5 2/3 innings in relief of Connor Troy. Hendricks struck out six batters.

Northeast rolls

CALAMUS — Northeast used back-to-back six-run innings to defeat Calamus-Wheatland 15-3 in a non-conference baseball game that was reduced to six innings because of the 10-run rule.

Matt Haferbier had two hits and two runs batted in to lead the Rebels on offense. His first-inning single staked Northeast to a 2-0 lead. Ketzalli Dondiego also drove in a pair of runs, and Jack Murphy added a double.

Northeast increased its lead to 9-1 with a six-run third inning, then added six more in the fourth.

Tevin Stoecker, Haferbier and Nick Wall each pitched an inning for Northeast, and Axel Dondiego threw the final two.
