Boys basketball roundup: Dail leads Fulton to win

FULTON, Ill. — Matt Dail had a strong second quarter, and so did his Fulton teammates.

Dail scored seven of his game-high 14 points in the second period as the Steamers outscored Erie 12-2 en route to a 54-34 victory Friday night in Three Rivers Conference boys basketball.

Erie hung close with the Steamers (15-5) early before Fulton began to pull away in the latter stages of the first quarter. Led by six points each from Kyle Huebner and Jake Willging, Fulton led 16-11 after one quarter. Huebner finished with 11 points, while Willging added 10.

Owen McConnell led the Cardinals with nine points.

Irish edged

CLINTON — Prince of Peace had its chances in the final two minutes but couldn’t score, allowing Central City to leave town with a 44-42 win Friday in Tri-Rivers Conference boys basketball at Central Catholic Auditorium.

The loss ended a four-game winning streak for the Irish (7-7).

Nic Roth scored 22 points for the Irish, who pulled within 43-42 with two minutes remaining. Fifteen of Roth’s points came in the second half. Lucas Laufenberg added 12.

David Mosher led Central City (5-8) with 15 points. He scored 11 of those after halftime, nine in the fourth quarter that began with the teams tied at 33.

Easton Valley wins

MILES — Chase Zaruba continued his high-scoring ways, scoring 28 points Friday as Easton Valley ended Alburnett’s seven-game winning streak with a 75-52 victory in Tri-Rivers Conference boys basketball.

Zaruba buried four 3-pointers in a 19-point first-half performance that helped the River Hawks build a 38-27 lead. Easton Valley finished the first half with six 3-pointers, four in the second quarter when it turned a 16-15 deficit into its lead.

Logan Wilhelm added 19 points for Easton Valley.

Alec Philipp led Alburnett (11-2) with 21 points.
