Girls basketball roundup: Irish win in OT

CLINTON — Karli Atkinson scored 18 of her game-high 23 points after intermission to lead Prince of Peace to a 47-43 overtime victory against Central City in Tri-Rivers Conference girls basketball Friday night at Central Catholic Auditorium.

The win was the fifth in six games for the Irish, who improved to 7-8 on the year.

The Irish entered the fourth quarter trailing 33-25 but slowly crept back in it. Atkinson scored six points over the final eight minutes and Jackie Kokjohn added five to force overtime with the teams tied at 40.

The Irish opened overtime with a field goal from Lauren Pittman, and the rest of their points came from the free-throw line. Atkinson went 2-for-2, Hunter Chapman was 2-for-2 and Pittman made 1 of 2.

Ashley Iehl scored 16 points to lead Central City (1-13).

DEWITT — The difference was eight free throws.

Marion defeated Central DeWitt 43-35 on the road, and things were pretty much even except for that one stat.
