Camanche tops Clinton in non-conference girls basketball

CAMANCHE — After a slow start, Camanche revved up its offense in the second half and defeated Clinton 48-30 in a non-conference girls basketball game Saturday.

Limited to one 3-point basket in the first half, Kylie Vogel exploded in the second half. She made three more 3-pointers and went 8-for-10 from the free-throw line to finish with 20 points.

The Indians trailed 13-12 at the half but opened the second half with back-to-back 3-pointers to take the lead that they never lost.

“Both teams came out focused on defense,” Clinton coach Mike Halac said. “Only allowing 12 points was because of a very focused defensive effort. We started off the second half with a basket to go up 15-12, but from there we really struggled offensively.”

Erin Wenzel led Clinton with 12 points and 17 rebounds, nine offensive.

Irish girls win

ALBURNETT — Andrea Aquilani popped in five 3-pointers and Karlie Atkinson scored eight of her 10 points in the first half to help Prince of Peace get off to a strong start in a 51-39 win against Alburnett in a Tri-Rivers Conference game Saturday.

Aquilani hit a pair of treys in the second quarter, when Prince of Peace expanded a 13-0 lead to 29-15.
