Cindy Hufford is in her second year as the commander of AMVET’s Post 28 in Clinton. Find out more about her in this week’s edition of Meet Your Neighbor.
Where and when did you serve?
In 1998 to 2002 I was in the Navy and I was stationed in NAS Oceana in Virginia Beach, Virginia but I went on two deployments to the Mediterranean.
Do you have any goals this year as the commander?
I do. I’d really like to get more members. I think this is an absolutely wonderful place for people to come and visit. I just want the community to know we’re here, if it’s veterans or family members of veterans. I would like to start doing more family events and maybe start to get some of the younger veteran families in. One of my bigger goals is to make sure were serving the community around us.
What makes you proud to be a part of AMVETS?
This place has been a part of my life since I was probably a baby. The original AMVETS that was here burnt down and I remember coming to that one with my family when they had family events. Just knowing that this place serves the people that serve just makes me proud of it.
What is your favorite thing about Clinton?
I think my favorite place in Clinton would be sitting up on the dike watching the river. It’s such a beautiful part of Clinton.
What is your job?
I’m a fifth-grade teacher in the Clinton School District at Eagle Heights Elementary. I have been a teacher for 11 years and at Eagle Heights for eight.
