CLINTON — A Clinton man is facing multiple charges after allegedly stealing a school bus from a private driveway in Charlotte on Tuesday night.
A Clinton County Sheriff's Office media release states that at 5:02 p.m. Tuesday, Clinton County deputies were dispatched to the 100 block of Park Avenue in Charlotte for a report of a Northeast School District school bus being stolen from a private driveway. The caller advised the suspect drove the school bus west on Park Avenue.
Deputies located the school bus a short time later stuck in a field a short distance from where it had been stolen. The bus was occupied by a lone male subject. Deputies were able to take a male, identified as Thomas J. Ruchotzke, 38, of Clinton, into custody after a brief standoff. Ruchotzke allegedly struck several mailboxes on Park Avenue with the school bus.
Ruchotzke is charged with operating without owner's consent, third-degree criminal mischief and driving while license suspended. Ruchotzke also was wanted on two Clinton County District Court warrants for controlled substance violations.
