FULTON, Ill. — A man was sent to a Morrison hospital for treatment after allegedly resisting arrest Thursday night.
Around 10 p.m., a Fulton police officer responded to a report of a domestic battery near the 2300 block of Fourth Street. Once officers were on scene, they attempted to arrest 54-year-old Steven A. Schmidt.
Schmidt "caused contact of a provoking nature" while officers attempted to detain him, Lt. Donnie Pridemore reported. A Taser was deployed to subdue Schmidt. He was treated by Fulton emergency medical services personnel and then was transported to Morrison Community Hospital to obtain treatment for minor injuries. He then was taken to the Whiteside County Jail.
He was charged with domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor; resisting a peace officer, also a Class A misdemeanor; and aggravated battery to a peace officer, a Class 2 felony.
He was being held without bond Friday, pending his first court appearance.
