CLINTON — The Clinton Area Showboat Theatre will hold local auditions for “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, and from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, in the Showboat lobby.

CAST is looking for children ages 6 to 13 years old, or looking no more than 13 years old. Women will be needed to fill several roles including one “40ish” mother type, one 50-plus old grouch and several others of various ages. Men are needed to portray one “40ish” father type and two small roles. Everyone will be given a scene from the play to read and children should bring a joke to tell.

The first cast meeting will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, at the Showboat. The child and one or more parents will need to be present. Rehearsals will begin Oct. 13. The play will be produced on the Showboat stage Nov. 27 to Dec. 13 on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and will be directed by Jalayne Riewerts.

“The Best Christmas Pageant Ever,” an adaptation from the famous book by Barbara Robinson, is about a couple struggling to put on a church Christmas pageant. They are faced with casting the Herdman kids — probably the most inventively awful kids in history.
