The Clinton School Board will meet for its regular session Monday evening, with the board to consider approving the first reading of newly updated cell phone use policies for students and employees.
According to the General Policies Handbook currently published on the district’s website, “students are not permitted to display, activate or use” cell phones, and other listed electronic devices, “at any time during normal school hours.” This includes during outdoor and off-campus activities.
The current policy also states that cell phones “are not to be activated or used during emergency drills or during emergencies unless directly authorized by a school district administrator.” Cell phones will be confiscated if they are used or go off during the school day, and will be returned to the student’s parent.
In addition, the policy states that “evidence of disruptive use...or failure to comply with this policy will result in immediate disciplinary action.”
According to Monday’s agenda, the new policy will reflect the current practice of monitoring student cell phone use. Another policy for employees will give clarity and expectations for school staff use, along with accompanying regulations and agreements.
Also on the agenda are change orders for the high school addition and approval of the board goals and priorities for 2011-2012.
The board will meet Monday at 7 p.m. in the Clinton High School library.
