MOUNT CARROLL, Ill. — Timber Lake Playhouse’s summer 2009 season kicks off with “Grease.” Rich Hall, general manager of the Timber Lake Playhouse, said this well-known musical tribute to the 1950s is sure to be a hit at Timber Lake Playhouse. Everyone is invited to join Sandy, Danny Zuko, Rizzo, Kenicke and the rest of the gang as they sing favorite hits from this show from June 4 to 14.

The second show of the season, “Lend Me a Tenor,” was chosen as a top pick for a play from an audience survey. This comedy focuses on the trouble that ensues when a famous opera singer is assumed dead and a substitute takes his place. People can experience this comedy from June 18 to 21 and June 23 to 27.

Fans of the 1980s and the Adam Sandler film, will have a chance to attend Broadway’s newest hit, “The Wedding Singer.” This musical was chosen as the top choice for a musical from an audience survey. This musical focuses on Robbie, who sings in a wedding band, as he deals with his fiancee leaving him at the altar, by making every wedding as disastrous as his own.

The story will follow him as he looks for love. The musical will be held July 2, 3, 5 and July 7 to 12.

“Wait Until Dark,” the suspenseful play from Frederick Knott, author of “Dial ‘M’ for Murder,” will run from July 16 to 19 and July 21 to 25. This thriller tells the story of a blind woman who must defend herself from murderous thugs.

“Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” is from the same authors who brought the theater community “The Full Monty.” This new comic hit is based on the popular 1988 Steve Martin film.

This story follows two con men out to pull the ultimate con leading to a battle of cons. People can attend this comedy on July 30, 31 and Aug. 1, 2, 4 and Aug. 5 to 9.

Hall said he was excited for the theater’s last production, “Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story.” The musical traces Buddy Holly’s quick rise to fame and his untimely death. The show includes 20 musical hits, including Buddy Holly songs, “Peggy Sue,” “That’ll Be The Day” and “Oh Boy.”

Other music numbers will include the Ritchie Valen’s song “La Bamba” and the Big Bopper’s “Chantilly Lace.” This musical will take place Aug. 13 to 16 and Aug. 18 to 23.
