The Camanche Volunteer Fire Department will be conducting its annual door-to door drive for Muscular Dystrophy on Wednesday, Aug. 24.
Firefighters will start collecting at 5:15 p.m. and continue until dark.
This will be the final phase of the fund-raising effort for the year. Any resident who firefighters are unable to make contact with will be left with an envelope and can send a donation for MDA to Camanche Fire Department, Box 77, Camanche, IA 52730.
The Camanche Fire Department has been raising money for MDA since 1957.
In 1979 the department began its annual pancake breakfast.
Last year they raised $14,000 for MDA and over the years have raised more than $234,000 total for MDA. The goal this year is to top last year’s total.
Last year’s donation of $14,000 was the highest in the history of the fire department and was first in the state of Iowa for volunteer departments.
“We are very proud to join firefighters across the nation in raising money for this great cause,” said Camanche Fire Chief Dave Schutte.
“This community provides support to this cause that is second to none. The town of Camanche raises more money per capita for MDA than anywhere in the state of Iowa and probably the nation.
“We would like to thank the community in advance for their support of this and all of our fund-raising efforts this year,” he said.
