CAMANCHE— The City of Camanche is in support of a dog park in Camanche, with council members voting 4-1 in favor of the concept.
Camanche City Councilwoman Amber Metzger at the last council meeting requested the council vote on whether to support the concept of a dog park. She requested the council give the Park and Recreation Commission direction on whether they are in support of a dog park, stating the council through the dog park discussions never gave the Park and Recreation Commission that direction.
Camanche City Administrator Andrew Kida said the Park and Recreation Commission would have to submit a proposal for a dog park to the City Council for approval. Kida believes authorizing the commission to develop plans for a dog park provides direction they can proceed with a proposal to present for approval.
"It at least lets that commission know that council is in support of the concept of a dog park and they can go ahead and move forward with anything else they need to do to make that happen," Kida said.
Council members Tammy Campie, Paul Varner, Danny Weller and Metzger voted in favor of the motion. Councilman Brent Brightman voted against the motion.
