Working together

CLINTON — As a way to pay it forward, Dependable Drain and Plumbing sponsored free coffee at Deanna’s Java Station on Thursday morning.

From 7 a.m. to about 9:30 a.m. (or when the sponsored funds ran out), Deanna Posey, owner of the mini-drive thru coffee shop off Lincoln Way, worked a seemingly endless line of coffee drinkers. All the “fancy drinks” customers wanted were served up for free. Though she was exhausted from the bustling morning, Posey said it was “just so much fun.”

“It was just our way of giving back to the community, to spread the love,” said Jess Snyder, office manager at Dependable Drain and Plumbing. “We wanted to say good morning to the people we knew and introduce us to the people we don’t.”

Thursday potentially was the best day for this random act of kindness. As Posey also gives her customer 2-for-1 stamps on the 10-stamp card.

It started off as a surprise reveal on social media on Wednesday afternoon. The reveal highlighted free coffee for people at the window and free Dependable Drain koozies for those waiting their turn. It was a nice surprise, especially coming off a two-day boil order this week.

“It’s a really opportunity,” Posey said. “It’s awesome marketing both ways, for me and them, so it’s kinda like a double whammy, and people get something out of that, that’s the cool part about it.”

The two businesses have been friendly for at least 13 years, Posey estimates — and for years she has enjoyed serving her frequenters at Dependable Drain and Plumbing.

Posey said she could be a barista/coffee shop owner for 30 more years because she loves her job.

“I’m just glad that I was born and raised here,” Posey said. “This community has paid for my living. This is how I live and it’s because people love coffee.”

Snyder said that Dependable Drain and Plumbing will “definitely” host another coffee day. The funds came directly from the company.

“This was our first time doing this, and it was a huge hit,” she said.
