CLIVE — A Clinton man got a jolt of a lifetime after scratching off a $50,000 lottery prize.

Norman Weets won a top prize in the Iowa Lottery’s “$50,000 Super Crossword” scratch game. He bought his winning ticket at Kwik Star, 2321 Lincoln Way St. in Clinton, and scratched it at work.

“I was in shock, especially when this last word I scratched off was ‘jolt.’ It kind of sent a jolt through my spine, you know?” said Weets, who works in the maintenance department at Clysar in Clinton. “I was in awe. I’m still shocked.”

Weets said that after the big win, word traveled fast around the company.

“I let out a little holler and somebody goes, ‘You guys got a party going on there?’” Weets said. “I said, ‘No, I just won 50 grand,’ and no one believed me.”

Weets claimed his prize Friday at the lottery’s regional office in Cedar Rapids. It was the 10th of 48 top prizes available in the game. He said he plans to use his winnings on new windows and siding for his home.

The $50,000 Super Crossword is a $10 scratch game. Details about how to play this game, and the number of prizes still available, can be found at Ialottery.com.
