CLINTON — Lovers of all things preowned can take the Consignment Crawl and Resale Tour through Clinton's downtown and the Lyons district from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 24.
The Clinton Municipal Transit Administration trolley will take attendees between the 12 involved stores to designated, marked pick-up sites. Lou Ray of Deja Vu Furniture belongs to a national association of resalers, through which she heard of this idea. Marketing has gone on for a few weeks, and already out-of-towners, she said, have scoped out the stores in anticipation of the big tour.
This is the first event of its nature in Clinton, though the shops around town are no strangers to each other. Frequently, Ray sends customers to other local shops to check them out or to find something that she may not supply.
"Everyone that's on this," Ray said, "they're all small, locally-owned businesses... We all have a good rapport. We're very comfortable calling and passing (customers) on to local stores."
The trolley, free of charge, will come around every 30 minutes. People can ride for more than one stop, or jump from store to store. All stores involved are resale stores in some fashion — such as antique or thrift stores.
Some stores will be holding special sales, door prizes and silent auctions.
Ray sees the Consignment Crawl as a way to show off Clinton. She hopes people will stop and walk around and maybe stop in for something to eat somewhere. She said "it's always nice to tie the downtown and Lyons together."
