Jesse Lawson is this year's Clinton Half Marathon race director. Find out more about him in this week’s edition of Meet Your Neighbor.
Have you been involved with the Clinton Half Marathon it before?
Last year was my first year being involved with the half marathon and I was the safety coordinator and then I became race director this year.
How long have you been involved with the YWCA?
Probably about nine or 10 years. I started out as a member and then started getting on committees and growing at that level. Now I sit on several of their committees, like the finance committee.
Anything new with the Clinton Half Marathon?
The Saturday packet pick-up party is new. That is from 5 to 8 p.m. where people can pick up their packets for the race. We also will have a kids fun run, live music, beer, food and fireworks at the end. The route of the race is different this year. Our start and finish is at the 200 block of Fifth Avenue by Zirkelbach. We will still go up through Eagle Point Park and back.
In your eyes why is this an important event for Clinton to have?
You're running or walking for a reason because all the proceeds go to support the YWCA. Running a non profit in a smaller community is extremely strenuous and it takes a whole lot more than people realize. The budget of the YWCA is quite large. it is a constant fight to keep things moving and events like this generate funding for the local mission of the YWCA.
