Preliminary results attribute an unattended death in Clinton to natural causes.

Edward Kimmer, 71, was found dead in his home Friday afternoon at 718 Albany Court.

This morning, Sgt. Joe Raaymakers said in a telephone interview that police officers responded to the address at approximately 3 p.m. for a welfare check. A Clinton Herald newspaper carrier had called the police to report that Kimmer’s newspapers were stacking up outside his home, said Raaymakers.

After discovering Kimmer deceased in his home, Clinton police handed the investigation over to Clinton County Medical Examiner Eric Peterson.

An autopsy was conducted in Ankeny. While the toxicology results will not be back for several weeks, Peterson confirmed that preliminary results indicate he died of natural causes.
