Running with Randy Knight

Rachael Keating/Clinton HeraldRandy Knight, an avid runner and member of the Riverfront Running Gang, runs along the Mississippi River.on a sunny Wednesday afternoon.

Fulton, Illinois, resident Randy Knight started running in 2010 and hasn’t looked back since. Find out more about him in this week’s edition of Meet Your Neighbor.

How did you get involved with the Riverfront Running Gang?

I’m really not sure. My wife heard about it and she said ‘hey, there’s a bunch of people that run together on Saturdays and I showed up.

Do you participate in races? If so what was your longest race.

Yeah, I maybe do 10-12 races a year. Last year I ran 100 miles in the Hennepin Hundred in the Quad-Cities.

What has been your best running memory?

Probably the Hennepin Hundred because the last 50 miles I was allowed to have people run beside me. I had people from the running group each take a turn running 12 miles beside me. It was the hardest part of the race but I had someone right there to talk to.

What makes Clinton a unique place to run?

The beauty of the river right there. You’re not going to find that most places.

Do you have any advice for people that want to start running or join the gang?

My advice would be to start out slow and increase gradually.
