CLINTON — The annual Iowa Parent-Teacher Association Convention kicks off today in Clinton. The theme for the two-day event is "Every Piece Counts."
Workshops will be held throughout the day Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at three locations: the Hampton Inn, Clinton Middle School and Clinton High School. CHS will commence the ceremony with a special family event at Vernon Cook Theatre.
The convention's special guest speaker is author Steven Layne, who has published more than 20 books. A press release describing festivities states, "Mr. Layne knows a lot about where a writer's best ideas begin. In this dynamic, high energy presentation, parents, teachers, kids — the whole community — will come away with some fabulous background stories about Steve's books as well as useful information about places that writers of any age can go for inspiration."
Layne will sell books and host signings following his presentation. Doors at Vernon Cook open at 6:30 p.m. for the 7 p.m. speech.
On Saturday, registration begins at CMS at 8 a.m. Sessions commence with the PTA's business meeting at 8:30 a.m., followed by three workshop sessions, lunch, an awards presentation and the concluding reflections at Vernon Cook Theatre.
