CLINTON — Eastern Iowa Community Colleges is developing a new idea and utilizing the help of modern technology to bring information to people in their homes.
EICC, which includes Clinton, Muscatine and Scott community colleges, will host special online webinars on Monday and Tuesday. Anyone interested in learning more about returning to classes can tune in and ask questions simply by sitting at their home computer.
“This is something entirely new for us and it will be fun to see how it goes,” Clinton Community College Admissions Officer Heather Mohler said. “We’re really excited about it and hope that it will help us to reach people who have trouble fitting a college visit into their schedules.”
Monday’s session begins at 12:15 p.m. while Tuesday’s session is in the evening, beginning at 6 p.m. Mohler will host both sessions, which will focus on adults looking into returning to classes to either begin a new career or to upgrade some specific skills.
“It will really be an overview session covering such things as financial aid, the programs that are available, registering for classes and so on,” Mohler said. “Essentially it will be answering those commonly asked questions we receive from adults thinking about starting with us.”
The webinar will be aired on the EICC You Tube channel so people need nothing more than their computer to view it. They can tune in by going to www.eicc.edu/webinar at the time of the session. They will also be able to submit their own questions by emailing Mohler at email@example.com, either before or during the webinar.
Mohler did ask that people be a bit understanding of any glitches that might occur during the webinar.
“Both webinars will be live and this is the first time we’ve tried something like this so there might be a little ‘oops’ here or there as we’re learning how to do it ourselves,” she said. “But we’re very hopeful that it will be something that we can make a regular activity. People are becoming so comfortable with computers and watching YouTube videos that this just seems like a logical way to help get information to them.”
She said replays also will be available of the webinars for people who are unable to view them live. Those also will be available on the college’s You Tube channel at www.youtube.com/EasternIowaCC
