CLINTON — A man convicted of first-degree murder in Clinton County died Wednesday in a hospice room of the Iowa Medical and Classification Center.

Robert Robinson, 74, formerly of Fulton, Illinois, was pronounced dead at 1:12 a.m. due to natural causes early Wednesday morning. He had been housed at the hospice room due to a chronic illness.

Robinson had been serving a life sentence in prison for the shooting death of Thomas Tague in 1998. His sentence began on July 2, 1999.
