Clinton native Travis Mink, 21, is in his fourth summer working as a lifeguard at Riverview Swimming Pool. Find out more about him and his job in this week’s edition of Meet Your Neighbor.
Do you have any interesting days as a lifeguard?
I’d say the most interesting days are probably when we get just tons of kids and then you’ll have all these kids that you think are bad but end up being those kids that come up and talk to you. It’s just fun.
Are you a water person outside of work?
Yeah, I like to be out on the river and all sorts of stuff like that. I’ll go jet skiing with my girlfriend and her family. We’ll go out on the river and hang out and swim.
What do you do in the winter?
It kind of depends, usually I just work up at the rec (Ericksen Community Center) and work out and hang out pretty much. Eat some pizza. I’m definitely a summer person.
What do you do for fun on a day off?
On a day off, depending on how much sun I’ve gotten for the week, sometimes I just stay in and watch movies but other than that I like to jet ski on the river.
How much sun screen do you go through as a lifeguard?
Oh, it’s a lot. Maybe a bottle every two weeks.
What are your plans for after school?
I’m going to try and do computer programming stuff. I’ve done a little bit of it right now but I’m still getting worked into the field. I probably will go to a technical school and focus on what I’m going in to.
What’s your favorite area restaurant?
In town, I gotta do the shout out to Pizza Hut because I always get it but other than that I’m a big sushi person.
What is your favorite place you’ve traveled to?
I would say Grand Cayman Island. Usually I try to make a winter escape to get back to the summer. That was a really nice place.
