BETTENDORF (AP) — Iowa Department of Transportation officials are giving tours of the $322 million bridge being built to connect Bettendorf to Moline, Illinois.
Danielle Alvarez is project manager of the new Interstate 74 bridge. Alvarez said she recently led a tour aboard a ferryboat on the Mississippi River for residents interested in the bridge construction. Alvarez covered the planning, design and ongoing buildout of the bridge featuring two four-lane spans.
The bridge is a primary piece of the $1.2 billion Interstate 74 corridor project.
Residents reserved their seats on the tour months in advance. The tour organized by River Action Inc. has become a popular attraction. River Action Program Manager Laura Morris said the group added four additional outings in September, which sold out in about a week.
Iowa legislative candidate jailed on harassment charges
CLIVE (AP) — A Libertarian candidate for the Iowa Legislature has been arrested and jailed on harassment charges.
The Des Moines Register reports that 39-year-old Chad Roye Brewbaker, of Clive, was jailed Friday afternoon after police say he repeatedly ignored a court order to stop all communication with a woman. Brewbaker remained in the Polk County Jail on Saturday and couldn't be reached for comment.
Brewbaker is running for the Iowa House District 43 seat, which includes the cities of Windsor Heights and Clive.
It's not Brewbaker's first harassment case. Court records show that in 2009, he was convicted of third-degree harassment for harassing a female student while he was a graduate assistant at Iowa State University. In 2010, Brewbaker was given a one-year suspension from Iowa State.
