Join the Lyons Neighborhood in hosting a great family friendly event. Winter Festival Open House will take place throughout the neighborhood this weekend. Walk up and down Main Avenue to take part in the numerous fun kids’ activities that will be available.

The Lyons library branch will have Christmas activities and storytime from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday and will serve as a warming station on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m.

The events are free at participating locations.

Looking for Yearbook Donations. The Lyons Genealogy and Local History Center is looking for some gently used yearbooks such as Clinton High School, Mount St. Clare, OLA, St. Mary’s, Prince of Peace, Lyons High School and the surrounding Iowa and Illinois area. We will also take grade school and junior high yearbooks. Donations are greatly appreciated. You may drop off at the Lyons Genealogy and Local History Center: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or Wednesday from noon to 7 p.m. at 105 Main Ave.

Ladies Night-DIY Spa Products. OK ladies, tired of paying a ton of money for spa products? Come to the library and make bath bombs, skin scrubs, bath salts and soaks and DIY makeup remover pads on Dec. 5 at 5:30 p.m. Space is limited, so please call to sign up.

Guys Night-DIY Spa Products. This one is for the guys. Come in and make homemade spa products like bath bombs, salts and soaks and body scrubs to give away as gifts or keep and use for yourself on Dec. 7 at 5:30 p.m. Space is limited, so please call to sign up.

Monday Movie Night for Teens. On Monday, Dec. 11, join us to watch “The Force Awakens” while making Star Wars crafts, like pool noodle lightsabers, Perler bead coasters and keychains, and origami. The movie starts at 4 p.m. but feel free to join anytime from 4 to 6:30 p.m. For grades 6 through 12.

Well Adjusted Baby. Have you ever wondered about the benefits of early chiropractic care and adjustments on infants and children? On Thursday, Dec. 14, from 1 to 2 p.m., Dr. Angela Gabel will be here to answer all of your questions and talk about her Well Adjusted Baby program.

Holiday Cheer with Ukulele Connection. At 5:30 p.m. Dec. 19, the Ukulele Connection returns from our summer Market Music series to provide our patrons with a collection of holiday classics.

Winter Solstice and Astronomy with Wes Unke. Join us for a wonderful Winter Solstice & Astronomy presentation by Wesley Unke. You will learn about historical Winter Solstice celebrations and Wes will give an informative astronomy lesson. In addition, Wes will display his photos of this year’s total solar eclipse taken in Jackson Wyoming. The event will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 20 at the Lyons Local history and Genealogy Center, 105 Main Ave.

Genealogy Day. There will be no Genealogy Day due to the holidays in November and December. Genealogy Day will resume Jan. 27 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Genealogy and local History research is always available Wednesday through Saturday.

Storytimes. Morning storytimes are on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10 a.m. Come join the fun with songs, books and puppet shows.

Wednesday After-School Programs. From 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. for both age groups. Kids in grades K-5 are welcome to come to the second floor to play different games, do crafts, or play Minecraft or other computer games, and puzzles. Teens in grades 6-12 are welcome to come to the Boardroom and/or the Teen Loft for video games, drawing, Perler Beads, and other fun activities.
