CAMANCHE — Camanche Fire Chief Dave Schutte has announced that Capt. Greg Nelson has reached a service milestone of 35 years as a volunteer for the Camanche Volunteer Fire Department.

Nelson joined the Camanche Fire Department on Aug. 7, 1983. He is a state-certified emergency medical technician. He is also state certified in Firefighter 1 and 2. He has served as the fire department’s president for the past 15 years. He was promoted to captain in 2003. Nelson also spent four years as a member of the Camanche City Council.

“Greg has been one of the longest-serving volunteers in the history of the department,” said Schutte. “It takes a special person to put in that many years as a volunteer.”

Nelson works for Modern Piping. He and his wife, Kathy, have two children, Raymond and Sarah.
