CLINTON — John P. Melvin Sr., age 67, of Clinton, died Thursday, March 19, 2009, at his home. Funeral services will be Tuesday 10:00 a.m. at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Following the funeral service, cremation rites will take place. Honorary pallbearers will be: Carl Chase, Jerry Houston, Dick Hansen, Mike Boss, John Melvin Jr., Larry Melvin Jr., John Melvin III, Spencer Melvin, Zachary Hevel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to A.S.P.C.A., Genesis Hospice or family wishes.
John was born on Dec. 12, 1941, in Clinton, the son of Glen and Norma (Barber) Melvin Sr. He married Barbara Johnston on June 20, 1995, in Las Vegas, NV.
John worked for the City of Clinton in the street department for over 30 years, retiring in 2004. He was a people person who enjoyed talking with everyone. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards and traveling the country with his motor home. He enjoyed his golden retriever, “Buddy,” who was with him in his truck everyday and his two schnauzers, Jazzmine and Simon.
John is survived by his wife, Barbara Melvin; his three children, Debra (James) Hevel of Basehor, KS, John (Regina) Melvin Jr. of Clinton, and Amy (Brett) Bussell of Lacey, WA; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a sister, Catherine Snodgrass of Clinton; and four brothers, Lawrence (Marlene) Melvin, Robert (Lucille) Melvin, Burton (Louise) Melvin and Glen (Teresa) Melvin Jr., all of Clinton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; brother-in-law, Wilbur; and nephew, Mike.
