---- — ELDRIDGE — Eugene C. “Bud” Minnaert, 86, of Eldridge, formerly of Dixon, Iowa passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at the Davenport Lutheran Home with his loving family by his side.
Visitation for Mr. Minnaert will be Sunday, August 4, 2013 from 2:30 – 5:30 PM, at The Runge Mortuary, Davenport. There will be an additional visitation one hour prior to the funeral service which will be held at the mortuary on Monday, August 5, 2013 at 11:30 AM. Burial will follow at Davenport Memorial Park, Davenport.
Bud was born December 19, 1926 in Stockton, Iowa, the son of Charles and Minnie (Stoker) Minnaert. He married Marilyn Kuehl on June 19, 1954 in Davenport.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII overseas in the Philipines and Japan as a heavy equipment operator. Upon returning home to the States with an Honorable Discharge from the military, Bud joined the Operating Engineers Union 4 days later at age 19. This was the beginning of a lifelong career as a union operating engineer with a 66 year membership with the International Union of Operating Engineers.
He enjoyed playing cards, traveling, dancing, and watching old western movies and WWE wrestling.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn, of 59 years, daughters Kathy (Mike Pickle) Howard, Edmond, OK; Pamela (Joe) Slater, Long Grove, and son, Duane; grandchildren Megan and Alyssa Howard, Joey and Mackensie Slater, sisters-in-laws, Katherine and Evelyn Minnaert, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Leonard and Clarence Minnaert, son, Gregory, and grandson, Jacob Slater.
