MILES — Minnie Margaret Gottburgsen, age 74, of Miles, Iowa, died peacefully Monday, April 29, 2013, at home. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Preston, Iowa, with Reverend Gregory Geier officiating. Burial will be in the Miles Cemetery, Miles, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2013, at the church. Minnie was born March 4, 1939, in Goose Lake, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew and Thekla (Kruse) Nielsen. She is a graduate of the Preston High School with the class of 1957 and a practical nurse graduate of St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. She served as a nurse for Drs. Broman and Brown in Maquoketa. On May 5, 1963, Minnie married Martin Gottburgsen at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Preston. They farmed together for 36 years and enjoyed almost 50 years of marriage.

Minnie was a loving and thoughtful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She cherished her time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing and quilting, playing cards and games, and loved to be busy in the kitchen. Her church life and family were also very important to her. Minnie and Martin spent over fourteen years wintering in Apache Junction, Arizona where they were both active in the community and have many special friends. The entire family appreciates the precious care that Minnie received from the University of Iowa Cancer Clinic, Hospice and the Family Clinic in Maquoketa.

Minnie will be dearly missed by her husband, Martin Gottburgsen of Miles; a son, Andrew Gottburgsen of Miles; two daughters, Inge (Jeff) Corlis of Eldridge, Iowa, and Jan (Chad) Ketelsen of Charlotte, Iowa; three grandchildren, Grace Corlis, and Emma and Nathan Ketelsen; a sister, Dorothy (Ralph) Marquardt of New Auburn, Wisconsin; and a brother, Norman (Barb) Nielsen of Princeton, Iowa; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Minnie is preceded in death by her brother, Frederick Nielsen; her sister, Katherine Pohlmann; a nephew, Karl Pohlmann; and both parents.
