CLINTON — Maxine E. Goddard, 88, of Clinton, passed away, Monday, February 17, 2014 at the Alverno.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Clinton. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting her obituary at

Maxine Elizabeth Goddard was born on October 27, 1925 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Floyd and Margery (Slapnicka) Smith. She married Robert H. Goddard on May 4, 1947 at the Low Moor Methodist Church.

She was a graduate of Elvira High School and attended Mt. St. Clare College.

She had been employed with Curtis Companies in Clinton for 8 years and 23 years with the Clinton Community School District as a secretary.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed playing the piano at the Low Moor Methodist Church as a young adult and taught Sunday school at both Low Moor and First United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose. She loved to bake, cook, and do crafts, especially scrapbooking having made over 60 scrapbooks. Springtime was her favorite time of the year as she enjoyed the new flowers and birds singing.

She is survived by her husband: Robert; her daughter Julie (Donald) Powell of Bondurant, Iowa, her son: Steven (Ann) Goddard of Bloomington, Minnesota, and grandchildren: Wesley (Beth) Powell, Kelsey Powell, Christina Goddard, and Ryan Goddard, and her sister: Lois Lamp of Charlotte.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister: Marian.
