---- — CAMANCHE — Wallace David (Wally) Williams, 73 of rural Camanche, died Thursday at his home.

Wallace David Williams was born on February 1, 1940 in Savanna, Illinois, the son of Wallace W. and Mary Alice (Switzer) Williams. He was a 1958 graduate of Mt. Carroll High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1966 with a tour of duty in Vietnam.

He married Cindy Lorenzen on November 29, 1974 in Argo Fay, Illinois.

He was employed with Determann Industries in Camanche for 30 years, retiring in 2006. He was a welder and in last years of employment he was the asphalt plant manager.

He was a 50-year Mason and member of the Cyrus Lodge #188 in Mt. Carroll and a member of American Motorcycle Association.

He enjoyed spending time with his brothers, children and grandchildren and long-time friends. He loved motor sports, was an avid reader, loved history and travelled extensively, including trips to Greece, Turkey, Japan, China and Korea. For the past five years, he enjoyed going with his brothers, son, grandson and nephews to Bonneville, Utah to the Bonneville Salt Flats where they were challenged to break land speed records. With three generations of riders and four motorcycles, a few records were made and certainly some personal bests. This week-long event was something he looked forward to and prepared for, all year long.

He is survived by his wife: Cindy of rural Camanche, by a son, Wallace Robert (Denise) Williams of Lanark, IL, a daughter Andrea Ranae (Andrew) Gastel of Freeport, IL and a son, Eric Williams of Camanche, IA; granddaughters: Mary Allison Williams, Zeita Rae Gastel, Hope Ranae Gastel, Gabrielle Elizabeth Gastel and grandson, Wallace Andrew Williams; a brother, Michael Williams of Clinton and a brother, Dennis Williams of Ecuador, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
