Gaylen ‘Jiggs’ Franzen

SABULA — Gaylen “Jiggs” Franzen, age 66, of Sabula, Iowa was a simple fun loving guy. Jiggs entered into heaven on December 23, 2013 at the Eagle Point Nursing and Rehab Center in Clinton, Iowa.

Jiggs was born February 2, 1947, the son of August “Butch” and Iola “Ollie” (Schmidt) Franzen in Savanna, Illinois.
He honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was a proud veteran.
Jiggs married Nancy Ann Jungen on February 8, 1969 in Preston, Iowa. Nancy passed away February 11, 1983.
Jiggs worked for the Milwaukee Railroad as a section worker until his retirement.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and raised rabbits. Jiggs enjoyed driving around Sabula in his John Deere Gator socializing with friends.
He would do anything for anyone as long as they asked. He was someone to talk to and would listen when you needed someone. Jiggs truly cherished the time he spent with his family and friends.
Jiggs is survived by his two sons, Troy (Jodie) Franzen of Cache, Oklahoma, Todd Franzen of Sabula; two daughters, Kimberly (Bill) Turigliatto of Delavan, Wisconsin, Dawn Rogers of Sabula; six grandchildren, Stephanie, Hailey, Lucas, Will, Callie, Kierce; four sisters, Aleda “Ede” Lohmeier, Sandy Jepsen, Lynanne Metz, Lanelle “Neak” Doermann and a brother, Nolan “Buck” Franzen.
Jiggs is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nancy; two brothers, Terrill “Pete” Franzen, Lyndell “Bummy” Franzen; and a sister, Sharon Jess.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 27, 2013 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna.
Burial will take place in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery, rural Sabula. A visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 27, 2013 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna.
