---- — SABULA — Dec. 21, 2013, at the age of 71. Beloved husband of Rose Anne (nee Bueter), loving father of Joan and Alex. A native of Sabula, Iowa, the “island city” in the Mississippi River, Dick graduated with a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Iowa, where he played trumpet in the Hawkeye Marching Band. He began a career in advertising at D’Arcy-MacManus in St. Louis, where he also earned his MBA from St. Louis University, married Anne, and began a family. In 1977, they moved to Wisconsin, where he worked for both Miller and Pabst before many years with Laughlin Constable. He then opened and operated two Schlotszky’s restaurants with a partner. For the past two years, until his death, he sold advertisements for Big River magazine, which features news and stories about the upper Mississippi River. He was a member of the West Allis and Wauwatosa Chambers of Commerce, and very active as a SCORE volunteer, where he assisted entrepreneurs.

Dick loved music. He will be remembered for his appearances in community theater musicals and church pageants. He was a board member of the St. Louis Bach Society and Milwaukee Jazz Experience, and especially enjoyed opera, big band, and Dixieland.

Visitation on Monday, Dec. 30th at St. Matthew’s Ev. Lutheran Church, 1615 Wauwatosa Ave. from 12:30 pm until time of Memorial Service at 2:00 pm, followed by a reception. A memorial service will be held in Sabula, Iowa, in March 2014, date and time to be published later. Memorials in his name to St. Matthew’s, SCORE, Time and Talents for Children, and City of Sabula Beautification Project.
