SAVANNA, Ill. — Josephine was a pet lover, made friends easily, and had a deep affection for her family. Josephine Delores Ramirez, age 76, of Savanna, Illinois passed away Saturday January 4, 2014 at The Alverno Health Care Facility, Clinton, Iowa.
A funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savanna with Father Dennis Atto as Celebrant. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Savanna. Visitation will be held from 9:30 – 10:30 prior to the Mass at Antl Hall. Josephine was born September 18, 1937, the daughter of John and Joanna (Barrera) Ramirez in Savanna, Illinois. Josephine attended St. John’s Catholic School and Savanna Community High School, where she was crowned Homecoming Queen with the Class of 1955. She had been employed at Eaton Manufacturing in Savanna, Illinois, and later at the Proving Grounds of the Savanna Army Depot.
Josephine was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Savanna, and her religion was very important to her. She loved gardening, cooking, music, dancing, sports and animals.
Josephine will by dearly missed by her son, Joseph Ramirez of East Moline; one grandson, Christian; five sisters, Lupe Castro of Savanna, Alice Ferris of Bellevue, Nebraska, Rose (Kenneth) Friederich of Savanna, Lillian (Merle) Sterenberg of Fulton, Illinois, and Angie (William) Ernst of Sunrise Beach, Missouri; two brothers, John Ramirez, Jr. of Moline, Illinois, and Louis (Vicki) Ramirez of Henderson, Nevada; and a close cousin Sister Martha Ramirez of Mexico.
Josephine was preceded in death by her parents, John and Joanna, and one brother, Michael.
