DEWITT — Kenneth “Ken” Paul Hofer, 68, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Monday morning, January 13, 2014, and entered the loving arms of his Heavenly Father, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by loved ones.

Celebration of life services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 17, 2014, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2136 Brady Street, Davenport, Iowa, with the Rev. Sara Olson-Smith officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall. A graveside service and burial will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 16, 2014.

Ken was born June 1, 1945, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Paul and Elaine (Schroeder) Hofer. He was a 1963 graduate of Central High School DeWitt. Ken was united in marriage to Phyllis Herem at Elvira Zion Lutheran Church on December 30th, 1966. He was president and owner of Park Farms Computer Systems and farmed all of his life.

He was an active member in Elvira Zion Lutheran Church for many years and later St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport. Ken served for six years in the Army National Guard. His passions were playing basketball, dancing, meeting new people and finding out about their lives. Ken’s children and grandchildren were his greatest joy. His smile lit up the lives of everyone he met.

Ken is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Phyllis; children; Kristi Hofer of Stevenson, Washington, Mike (Angie) Hofer of DeWitt and Andrea (fiancé, Gary Stone) Young of Oxnard, California; grandchildren, Logan and Reagan Hofer and Brayden Rose; his mother, Elaine Hofer of DeWitt; sisters; Kay (Dave) Hall of DeWitt, Paula (Tom) Underwood of Des Moines, Iowa; brothers, Art (Stephanie) Hofer of DeWitt and Rick Hofer of Ankeny, Iowa; his mother-in-law, Verna Herem of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Preceding him in death was his father.
