CAMANCHE — Meryl A. Boysen, 87, of Camanche, died Friday, February 8, 2013, at Eagle Point Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center – Clinton.

Funeral Services will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at the Evangelical Free Church, Clinton.   Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Camanche VFW.  Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Evangelical Free Church.   The Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family.

Meryl Alvin Boysen was born on January 12, 1926 in Clinton County, Iowa, the son of Christian and Anna (Fallasen) Boysen.  He was a 1943 graduate of Elvira High School.  He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict 1953-1955.  He married Marlene M. Martinson on August 15, 1953 in Dubuque, Iowa.

Meryl farmed outside of Low Moor for over 35 years.   He also was a real estate agent for Howes & Jefferies for 10 years.    

Meryl was a former member and past president of Immanuel Lutheran Church – Camanche, past president and member of the Low Moor Lions Club, past director of the Camanche Bank, board member of Mt. St. Claire College, a Farm Bureau member, and member of the Evangelical Free Church.   He was an avid golfer, gin rummy player and enjoyed trout fishing.  He was a wonderful husband, father, and loved being called “Opa” by his beloved grandchildren.

Meryl is survived by his wife: Marlene of Clinton, two sons: Keith (Jennifer) Boysen of Camanche, and Jim Boysen of Camanche; one daughter: Andrea (Charles) Volk of Long Grove, Iowa; and five grandchildren.

Meryl was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
