FULTON, Ill. — Robert (Bob) A. Onderbeke, age 87, of Fulton, IL passed away Friday, March 21, 2014 at the University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics in Iowa City, IA.
Robert was born on November 30, 1926 in Moline, IL, the son of Leopold and Helena (Verhegge) Onderbeke.
He married Lois J. Lawrence on December 4, 1945 in Moline. Bob was employed with Deere Harvester in East Moline for 39 years retiring in 1984. He served his country in the Marine Corps Reserve between World War II and the Korean War. Bob was an active member of the Clinton Church of Christ and enjoyed fellowship with his church family. He also enjoyed fishing and working at church camp in his retirement.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Lois of Fulton; one daughter, Janice (Joe) Henning, Sr. of Quincy, IL; one son, Max (Colisa) Onderbeke of Two Rivers, WI; five grandchildren, Joe (Renea) Henning, Jr., Robert (Shannon) Henning, Christina Onderbeke, Jamie Onderbeke and Cassandra Onderbeke; five great-grandchildren - Robert Henning II, Nicole Henning, Natalie Henning, Ashlyn Henning and Wilson Henning; two sisters, Loraine and Johanna and many nieces and nephews. He also had many special friends and neighbors that he cherished.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and three brothers.
Visitation will be 5-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at the McDonald Funeral Home in Fulton, IL. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Clinton Church of Christ, Clinton, Iowa with Reverend Johnson Folahan officiating. Burial will follow at the Fenton Cemetery, Fenton, IL.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Rock River Christian Camp.
